What is REALFEEL™ EIR Embossed-in-Register?

If you run your hand over the flooring, you’ll notice something remarkable. You feel fine indentations that match the underlying photograph of a wood plank, similar to the grain of a plank cut from a tree. The embossing that creates the indentations must align perfectly with the image of the wood or stone in order to achieve this extremely realistic 3-dimensional appearance. This precise alignment is known as embossed-in-register (EIR). The embossed physical grain of the wear layer is married to the image film.

Why does it matter if the minute indentations in the flooring duplicate the original wood or stone? It creates a level of realism that can’t be achieved in any other way. It looks and feels right. The perfect match between the embossing and photograph also results in depth of color similar to the natural material. Flooring manufactured with random or no embossing never looks natural. If you’ve ever seen a cheap print of a famous painting, you may have noticed that the print was embossed to simulate brush strokes, but the brush stroke embossing didn’t match the artist’s real brush strokes. You can tell the print is simply a poorly done copy of the real painting.
